About this image

Illustrative or adapted specimen presentation. It is not a documentary photograph of LIMNIC stock, a voucher specimen or evidence of successful breeding.

Scientific references establish the profile’s research context; they do not by themselves establish image ownership or validate the depicted animal.

Retained credit record — asset match and permission not yet verified: von Rintelen & Cai (2009), species treatment pp. 410–415, Figs. 39–41 · CC BY 4.0; adapted presentation.

Identity and origin

Origin
Lakes Towuti and Mahalona, Malili lake system, Sulawesi
Identity
Described species endemic to the Malili lake system

A red shrimp with lateral white stripes and pale feeding claws. The original description records two rostrum forms. Colour and a trade name alone do not authenticate a captive animal.

Habitat and care

Rock surfaces in shallow water and deeper boulder zones. Habitat and identity reference

Use a mature, species-dedicated system with stable water chemistry, strong oxygenation and suitable grazing surfaces. Follow documented breeder parameters for the exact species and colony; do not transfer a soft-water bee-shrimp recipe to an ancient-lake species.

Size and measurement
The 2009 description reports carapace lengths of 1.7–3.8 mm in its examined material. Carapace length is only part of the animal and must not be presented as total adult length.
Planning context
A rock-associated shrimp of Towuti and Mahalona. Verify the actual line before applying a species name to a trade label; prepare a mature system and obtain the source population’s established care record.

Before choosing this species

Care-planning notes. Confirm exact requirements for the species and source population.

  • Confirm the adult size and social behaviour of the exact species before planning its aquarium.
  • Establish biological filtration and stable water conditions before introducing animals.
  • Ask for locality, captive history and the actual animal’s feeding record; a catalogue image cannot provide these.
