SPECIES DOSSIER · RESEARCH STAGE

Chaca bankanensis

Bangka Frogmouth Catfish · Chacidae · Piscivore

Identity and native record

Chaca bankanensis (Bangka Frogmouth Catfish) is included because authoritative species records document native occurrence in Bangka, Sumatra and Kalimantan records; Belitung reports remain unverified. “Native to Indonesia” does not imply endemicity, captive availability, legal export, or permission to import.

Informal Belitung reports are not promoted as confirmed distribution. Any future island-origin claim requires a museum, publication or traceable specimen record.

Ecology and adult scale

Feeding guild
Piscivore
Reported adult scale
about 20 cm SL
Habitat
Soft, acidic forest streams and peat swamps

Feeding guild is an editorial husbandry aid, not a complete diet prescription. Juvenile and adult diets, seasonal ecology and individual behaviour can differ.

Welfare and suitability screen

Ambush predator with specialist feeding and water requirements; unsuitable tankmates may be swallowed.

Before any future listing, LIMNIC would need to document the individual fish, expected adult dimensions, secure containment, water parameters, diet, compatibility, transport risk and the buyer’s capacity to provide lifetime care.
