Identity and native record
Chitala borneensis (Bornean featherback) is included because authoritative species records document native occurrence in Kalimantan / Borneo. “Native to Indonesia” does not imply endemicity, captive availability, legal export, or permission to import.
Taxonomic confusion with C. lopis makes specimen- and locality-backed identification essential.
Ecology and adult scale
- Feeding guild
- Aquatic carnivore
- Reported adult scale
- large-bodied; verify current record
- Habitat
- Lowland river systems
Feeding guild is an editorial husbandry aid, not a complete diet prescription. Juvenile and adult diets, seasonal ecology and individual behaviour can differ.
Welfare and suitability screen
Specialist large-fish husbandry only; identity must be separated from historically confused Chitala names.
Before any future listing, LIMNIC would need to document the individual fish, expected adult dimensions, secure containment, water parameters, diet, compatibility, transport risk and the buyer’s capacity to provide lifetime care.
