SPECIES DOSSIER · RESEARCH STAGE

Channa marulioides

Emperor snakehead · Channidae · Piscivore

Identity and native record

Channa marulioides (Emperor snakehead) is included because authoritative species records document native occurrence in Sumatra, Bangka and western Kalimantan. “Native to Indonesia” does not imply endemicity, captive availability, legal export, or permission to import.

Colour and locality names are not substitutes for a traceable scientific identification; larger unsourced trade claims are not used here.

Ecology and adult scale

Feeding guild
Piscivore
Reported adult scale
published maximum 27 cm TL in FishBase
Habitat
Large rivers, lakes and flooded forest waters

Feeding guild is an editorial husbandry aid, not a complete diet prescription. Juvenile and adult diets, seasonal ecology and individual behaviour can differ.

Welfare and suitability screen

Large, escape-proof system; long-term adult dimensions must be planned before acquisition.

Before any future listing, LIMNIC would need to document the individual fish, expected adult dimensions, secure containment, water parameters, diet, compatibility, transport risk and the buyer’s capacity to provide lifetime care.
