SPECIES DOSSIER · RESEARCH STAGE

Hampala bimaculata

Two-spot Hampala · Cyprinidae · Piscivore

Identity and native record

Hampala bimaculata (Two-spot Hampala) is included because authoritative species records document native occurrence in Indonesian Kalimantan, including West Kalimantan records. “Native to Indonesia” does not imply endemicity, captive availability, legal export, or permission to import.

A Borneo endemic with documented native occurrence in Indonesia; it must not be confused with Mekong-endemic H. dispar.

Ecology and adult scale

Feeding guild
Piscivore
Reported adult scale
up to about 50 cm TL

Feeding guild is an editorial husbandry aid, not a complete diet prescription. Juvenile and adult diets, seasonal ecology and individual behaviour can differ.

Welfare and suitability screen

Large, powerful river fish requiring exceptional swimming length, oxygenation and a lifetime-scale plan.

Before any future listing, LIMNIC would need to document the individual fish, expected adult dimensions, secure containment, water parameters, diet, compatibility, transport risk and the buyer’s capacity to provide lifetime care.
