SPECIES DOSSIER · RESEARCH STAGE

Nandus nebulosus

Bornean Leaf Fish · Nandidae · Piscivore

Identity and native record

Nandus nebulosus (Bornean Leaf Fish) is included because authoritative species records document native occurrence in West Kalimantan and Sumatra records. “Native to Indonesia” does not imply endemicity, captive availability, legal export, or permission to import.

Museum material is documented from the Kapuas basin in West Kalimantan; provenance remains necessary because Nandus are visually confusable.

Ecology and adult scale

Feeding guild
Piscivore
Reported adult scale
up to about 12 cm SL
Habitat
Quiet forest streams, swamps and leaf-litter margins

Feeding guild is an editorial husbandry aid, not a complete diet prescription. Juvenile and adult diets, seasonal ecology and individual behaviour can differ.

Welfare and suitability screen

Cryptic ambush predator needing calm, structured habitat and appropriately sized foods and tankmates.

Before any future listing, LIMNIC would need to document the individual fish, expected adult dimensions, secure containment, water parameters, diet, compatibility, transport risk and the buyer’s capacity to provide lifetime care.
