SPECIES DOSSIER · RESEARCH STAGE

Pristolepis grootii

Indonesian Leaffish · Pristolepididae · Aquatic carnivore

Identity and native record

Pristolepis grootii (Indonesian Leaffish) is included because authoritative species records document native occurrence in Sumatra and Kalimantan. “Native to Indonesia” does not imply endemicity, captive availability, legal export, or permission to import.

Native western Indonesian occurrence is documented; the trade label leaffish is shared with unrelated fishes and is not diagnostic.

Ecology and adult scale

Feeding guild
Aquatic carnivore
Reported adult scale
up to about 18 cm SL
Habitat
Lowland rivers, swamps and forest waters

Feeding guild is an editorial husbandry aid, not a complete diet prescription. Juvenile and adult diets, seasonal ecology and individual behaviour can differ.

Welfare and suitability screen

Robust but predatory cichlid-like fish; adult aggression, diet and space require species-aware planning.

Before any future listing, LIMNIC would need to document the individual fish, expected adult dimensions, secure containment, water parameters, diet, compatibility, transport risk and the buyer’s capacity to provide lifetime care.
