SPECIES DOSSIER · RESEARCH STAGE

Oxyeleotris marmorata

Marble goby / betutu · Butidae · Aquatic carnivore

Identity and native record

Oxyeleotris marmorata (Marble goby / betutu) is included because authoritative species records document native occurrence in Sumatra, Java and Kalimantan native records. “Native to Indonesia” does not imply endemicity, captive availability, legal export, or permission to import.

Widely moved for aquaculture, so native-range claims require locality evidence rather than market origin.

Ecology and adult scale

Feeding guild
Aquatic carnivore
Reported adult scale
up to about 65 cm TL
Habitat
Rivers, lakes, reservoirs and floodplains

Feeding guild is an editorial husbandry aid, not a complete diet prescription. Juvenile and adult diets, seasonal ecology and individual behaviour can differ.

Welfare and suitability screen

Large benthic ambush predator; feeding, substrate and tankmate size need careful control.

Before any future listing, LIMNIC would need to document the individual fish, expected adult dimensions, secure containment, water parameters, diet, compatibility, transport risk and the buyer’s capacity to provide lifetime care.
