SPECIES DOSSIER · RESEARCH STAGE

Toxotes chatareus

Seven-spot archerfish · Toxotidae · Invertivore / opportunist

Identity and native record

Toxotes chatareus (Seven-spot archerfish) is included because authoritative species records document native occurrence in Sumatra and Kalimantan records. “Native to Indonesia” does not imply endemicity, captive availability, legal export, or permission to import.

Different archerfish are easily confused; meristics and provenance should support the final name.

Ecology and adult scale

Feeding guild
Invertivore / opportunist
Reported adult scale
up to about 40 cm TL
Habitat
Rivers, estuaries and mangrove-influenced waters

Feeding guild is an editorial husbandry aid, not a complete diet prescription. Juvenile and adult diets, seasonal ecology and individual behaviour can differ.

Welfare and suitability screen

Large surface area, secure cover and locality-informed salinity management.

Before any future listing, LIMNIC would need to document the individual fish, expected adult dimensions, secure containment, water parameters, diet, compatibility, transport risk and the buyer’s capacity to provide lifetime care.
