SPECIES DOSSIER · RESEARCH STAGE

Toxotes jaculatrix

Banded archerfish · Toxotidae · Invertivore / opportunist

Identity and native record

Toxotes jaculatrix (Banded archerfish) is included because authoritative species records document native occurrence in Indonesian coastal rivers and estuaries. “Native to Indonesia” does not imply endemicity, captive availability, legal export, or permission to import.

Included as a native freshwater–brackish carnivore; it is not a strictly inland freshwater species.

Ecology and adult scale

Feeding guild
Invertivore / opportunist
Reported adult scale
up to about 30 cm TL
Habitat
Freshwater–brackish river mouths, mangroves and tidal reaches

Feeding guild is an editorial husbandry aid, not a complete diet prescription. Juvenile and adult diets, seasonal ecology and individual behaviour can differ.

Welfare and suitability screen

Tall, covered paludarium-style system; salinity history and surface-feeding behaviour must be respected.

Before any future listing, LIMNIC would need to document the individual fish, expected adult dimensions, secure containment, water parameters, diet, compatibility, transport risk and the buyer’s capacity to provide lifetime care.
